Because just like being tailgated on the highway makes me go *precisely* the speed limit, someone telling me they don't think I should do X with my life or I ought to really conduct myself in Y fashion makes me even more determined to machete my way through the path I've chosen for myself.
They are crude, selfish, ignorant, talent-free braggarts who hold a position in the world simply because they are willing to hurt people to get what they want. But that way of operating is dying, however slowly. It's being snuffed out by the evolution of our species into more communal, intelligent, thoughtful, skilled and collaborative ways of being.
